John Marchiando

Concert halls in New Mexico are resonating with the sound of a newcomer on trumpet.  Dr. John Marchiando (D.M.A., Music Performance, '04) has been performing with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra as acting principal trumpet during the 2006-07 concert season.  He joined the NMSO as associate principal in January of 2006.  Dr. Marchiando also appears as guest principal trumpet with the Santa Fe Symphony. Between the two orchestras, he performs many major orchestral masterworks by composers such as Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Respighi, Mahler and Debussy.

Dr. Marchiando also accepted a teaching appointment at the University of New Mexico, where he teaches studio trumpet, repertoire classes and coaches brass ensembles.  He was instrumental in the planning and execution of the inaugural Brass Day at UNM, which attracted nearly 70 local high school brass students for a day of master classes and performances with UNM Department of Music faculty and students.  Dr. Marchiando also performs more than 35 concerts for elementary students in Albuquerque and Santa Fe with the NMSO and Santa Fe Symphony Brass Quintets.

Other projects for Dr. Marchiando include summer performances with the Santa Fe Opera, a trip to the recording studios to produce a live recording for the Summit Brass (his second such project with the world-renowned brass ensemble) and a solo appearance with his hometown orchestra.
