
Members of the Herberger College faculty attracted substantial national recognition as recipients of major awards and grants in 2003-2004.

Within the School of Art, six professors were recognized by major national organizations for their achievements.
- Mark Klett, ASU Regents professor of photography, was a 2004 recipient of a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship.
- Beverly McIver, associate professor of painting and drawing, and a previous recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, received a non-restrictive $20,000 grant from The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. The award honors emerging American artists "whose work shows serious promise, but who have not yet received widespread critical or commercial recognition."
- Kurt Weiser, Regents’ professor of ceramics and world-renowned ceramist, was one of seven recipients of the 2003 Aileen Osborn Webb award, presented by the American Craft Council in Chicago. The Webb awards honor individuals and institutions for their distinguished roles in the field.
- Professor Bernard Young of the art education program was the recipient of the 2004 Edwin Ziegfeld Award sponsored by the United States Society for Education through Art. The USSEA presents the award annually to one American and one international art educator who have made outstanding and internationally recognized contributions to art education through exceptional records of achievement in scholarly writing, research, professional service or community service.
- Mary Stokrocki, professor of art education, was elected a distinguished fellow of the National Art Education Association. She is a past recipient of the USSEA Ziegfeld award.
- Julie F. Codell, professor of art history, received a $40,000 National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to support her research into Indian coronation celebrations. In addition to teaching art history, Codell is a professor of English and a faculty affiliate in Asian studies at ASU.
Herberger College faculty members also were honored within the ASU community. Four received tenure. They are J.B Smith (tenure with promotion to professor, music), Kay Norton (associate professor, music), Robin Rio (tenure with promotion to associate professor, music) and Tamara Underiner (tenure with promotion to associate professor, theatre). Underiner also was one of five ASU faculty members named an exemplar by ASU President Michael Crow.
