For K-12 education to keep pace with the rapid technological advances in other sectors of society, new approaches to education must be developed that harness emerging technologies, enable collaborative learning, bridge the physical/digital realms, and prepare all students for the dynamic world they will someday lead.

Researchers in ASU's Arts, Media and Engineering Program are creating activities that address students' diverse learning styles and engage their creativity and curiosity in an interactive, life-sized multimedia learning environment called SMALLab.

SMALLab integrates recent advances in expressive computing interfaces, digital gaming, and leading edge educational technologies.  Students interact with sonic and visual media through full body 3-D movements and vocalizations to explore complex concepts drawn from the arts and sciences.  Whether installed in classrooms or community centers, SMALLab invites participants to become the central characters, collaborating and learning together on a digital stage.
