Career Goals
I have talked with my professors about my career direction and educational goals.
I have visited the Office of Student Success resource center (Dixie Gammage, Room 116) to review career opportunities.
I have decided to attend graduate school or apply for jobs and have researched possible locations using the student success online career resources.
Professional Documents
I have reviewed college reference materials on writing resumés and curriculum vitas.
I have updated my resumé or curriculum vitae so that it emphasizes my professional goals and skills relevant to my chosen career direction.
I have reviewed college reference materials on writing artist or personal statements.
I have written my personal or artist's statement.
I have reviewed college reference material on preparing a portfolio.
I have prepared my professional portfolio (art, education, technical theatre).
I have a current head shot (voice, acting).
I have prepared an audition tape. It is a good idea to have a back-up audition tape in case of illness or inability to travel to an audition (music).
I have researched college writing cover letter resources.
I have written cover letters for the jobs I have chosen.
If wanting to attend graduate school:
I have prepared for and scheduled standardized tests required for graduate study.
I have made a list of all application requirements and deadlines for each graduate school.
I have researched external funding resources.
References
I have developed relationships with key faculty members and asked them to provide a recommendation letter for me.
I have a current reference page with at least three references.
Review
I have made an appointment with Heather Landes, associate dean for Enrollment Management and Student Success, for review of my professional materials - curriculum vitae, resumé, cover letter, artist statement, personal statement, etc. (heather.landes@asu.edu or 480.727.9810)
Interviews
I have reviewed college reference material on preparing for an interview.
I have prepared for my interview by researching the business, preparing a list of questions, and brainstormed questions the interviewer might ask me.
I have professional clothes for my interview.
I plan to send a thank you follow-up after the interview and have drafted a letter.
