Writing a Curriculum Vitae
What is the difference between a resumé and a curriculum vitae? The primary differences are the length, the content and the purpose. A resumé is a one- or two-page summary of your accomplishments, skills, experience and education. A curriculum vitae, commonly referred to as CV, is a longer, more detailed synopsis. It includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details.
A curriculum vitae is used primarily when applying for academic, international, scientific or research positions or when applying for fellowships or grants.
Use the links below to assist you in preparing your CV. Be sure to review the samples on each of the Web sites.
Once you have a draft, feel free to have it reviewed in the Office of Student Success.
