Rachel Eskandari Transforms Her Artistic Dreams into Reality
My dad is an engineer, yet when I told him I wanted to major in art he fully supported me. He told me I would have to work hard to be successful, but he believes I am talented and determined enough to thrive in this competitive field. My father has worked extremely hard to get where he is today and is great at what he does. One day I hope I can say I am as accomplished as he is.
After deciding to attend ASU, I was very nervous. I didn't know what to expect and wondered how my skills would compare to those around me. I never will forget my final project in a 2-D course I took. Each student was asked to create any type of series, using any medium. I created a series of paintings with a bridal theme.
On the day of my critique, I was amazed at the reaction I received. Being in a room full of such amazing young artists can be intimidating, but their compliments made me realize I am an artistic equal in this program.
Just as the Herberger College has made me more aware of my strengths, my fellow students and teachers also have taught me that there always is room for improvement. My professors allow me the freedom to create while making suggestions of ways I can further develop an idea without compromising the originality and personality of the final product.
In Herberger College, I get to do what I love - create art. I have found a place where people are just as passionate about art as me. Being surrounded by talented peers and teachers also has enabled me to learn and create pieces I never believed I could. I know in my heart that my decision to attend ASU and study art was the best choice for me.
